Germantown
Montgomery County, Maryland
Winner of the 2006 Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Award for Special (Pool) Construction, the 60, 000 square foot Germantown Indoor Swim Center features competition, recreation, and leisure pools, along with two hydrotherapy pools, ready and waiting to host an expected 300,000 - 400,000 annual visitors. Paddock Swimming Pool Company of Rockville, MD served as the pool contractor for the project.
The 25 meter (8 lane) by 25 yard (10 lanes) competition pool is built for speed. Paddock’s C100 (SCRS) Perimeter System contributed to the 10 meet records and 3 prep school records that were set at the venue’s first major event, the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships. The 17 foot deep area allows for 5, 7. 5, and 10 meter diving, along with deep water running, water polo, SCUBA, water safety instruction, and non-competitive training (Fire & Rescue).
A stunning feature of the facility is the placement of water slides suspended from the ceiling above, the Pipeline and the Scrambler—two meandering, 200+ foot thrill rides—which carry swimmers from a platform 36 feet above deck level around the interior of the building, finally depositing them in the plunge area of the adjacent leisure pool.
The pools are serviced by 10 Paddock Horizontal Pressure Sand Filters.
The leisure pool, with its kiddie slides, water umbrellas, and tumble buckets, along with a ramped area and broad, shallow steps with appropriate grab rails provides a warm water, shallow recreation space for kids, senior adults, and physically challenged persons. In addition to play, this pool is used for swim lessons, adult water exercise, and therapy.
